SANTO TIRSO RESIDENCY: JOÃO SOUSA
It was wonderful to meet and speak with @joaosousabrand who is currently a part of the @aychplatform incubation programme which is helping him to develop his latest collection in time for @portofashionweek fashion week 27/09 - 03/10.2019. Fingers crossed João manages to link up with PCA for a residency in the new year so I can learn more about his design process.
’FILHOS DO LAGO’ Presented during Bloom - Portugal Fashion SS19, his collection drew inspiration from the work of photographer David Bazar during his time spent at Inle Lake in Myanmar.
“In just one hour, he was able to capture the superb art produced by the Intha, taking the opportunity to capture the constant threat they are subject to - reduced lake size due to floating agriculture and the mud created by it and the industry around the lake. This "rubbish” gets caught in the fishermen's nets and it can often take more than four hours to remove the dirt and start fishing again.
If the fishermen catch an average of ten fish on a normal day, without rubbish, how can they cope when they lose four hours every time something harmful to their work gets caught in their nets?”
