Covid-19 PPE Response, Devon, UK
PATTERN CUTTING | SEWING
Following a call out for more PPE to be made between Devon and Cornwall I linked up with my friend Ali Goodman owner of Francli Craftwear, a Falmouth based crafted accessories company who was offering free fabric bundles (supplied by local surf brand and a former employer of mine Finisterre) and instructions to make laundry bags for NHS staff to help prevent the spread of the virus once they had finished shift.
Additionally, I took it upon myself to make masks for friends, family and anyone who was in need. I used old, clean and unused bedsheets as a form of upcycling and fabrics bought from companies based in Totnes and North Devon to try and support local businesses where possible.
These two projects led me to be featured in a video put together by Plymouth College of Art which highlighted the response from local creatives which I am proud to be a part of.
Über den Wolken, Barcelona, Spain
PATTERN CUTTING | SEWING | COLLECTION PLANNING | CREATIVE DIRECTION BRAINSTORMING
During my time working with Julia in her central Barcelona studio we began planning the future of the independent company and how best to produce each piece from all being hand sewn by Julia herself to working on a larger scale due to demand. I helped to trace patterns to be sent to nearby factories and learnt about the careful fabric sourcing process and the history as to why Julia decided to bring Über den Wolken to life.
The brand has since worked with local shoe atelier About Arianne on campaigns which helped to launch Über into the spotlight of celebrated Barcelona designers.
Caninetto, Barcelona, Spain
PATTERN CUTTING | BULK SEWING | USE OF INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY (OVER LOCKERS, SEWING MACHINES, RIVET MACHINES) | MIXED TEXTILES (PVC, COTTON, STRETCH)
During my time working alongside Caninetto owners Edgar and Haritz I learnt how passionate they are about pets being members of the family and how specially designed clothing can help to keep them clean, healthy and comfortable. At Caninetto the designs are made in consideration of breed - we would often make harnesses specifically for certain dog breeds to help support their spines whilst on a leash, using extra fabric for short haired breeds and thicker collars for slimmer necks. Clients would also approach Caninetto for bespoke jumpers designed to ease any conditions their pet had, for example an irritable skin condition that was worsened by scratching so a specially designed jacket meant the skin was able to heal. Caninetto does not make fashion pieces, rather considered purposeful accessories that also look beautiful.
